Sewing Machine Recommendations

Hi there,

I am looking for any sewing machine recommendations.. I think it's getting to about that time for me to trade up.
But I'm not really sure what to look for? Good models/brands?
I currently work on a Singer 7105, which is fairly old and doesn't really have functions which I use, apart from straight stitch and occasionally zig zag :)
Also I live in Adelaide Australia, so I would need to research the servicing capabilities etc.. but would love any recommendations/suggestions on what to look out for, because I'm pretty clueless..

Thanking you in advance :)

  1. I just have a fairly cheap brother. Works fine for me but not fancy. How pricey are you going? I hear the best things about bernina and janome

    1. Not sure on price yet, but I'm sure if one I find and really like is a bit on the pricey side I will justify it to myself haha..

  4. I'm currently borrowing my Mum's Janome machine which is either a 2160DC or a 3160QDC (can't remember but looking at pictures it's one of the two). I've just been sewing for a little while and it's much more high-tech than my current skill set, but it's so lovely to sew on. I think when it's time to get my own machine I'll stick with Janome, and it's going to be hard to "down grade" to something less fancy. Machine came from Homecraft Sewing Centre in Windsor Gardens (am from Adelaide too), and they were really helpful. They service/repair and offer free classes with the machine.

      Thanks!

  5. I also love my Janome, but it's a specific version made for a shop in the UK. I'm not sure what it's equivalent is? I would recommend Janome on reliability though, I love mine (although I've only had it 3 months!) By the way, I just wanted to say that I've given you a Liebster Award as I love your blog! I'm hoping you don't have it already? I've written some questions on my blog if you fancy answering them, and then passing the award onto 10 other bloggers. Can't wait to see what you answer :)

  6. I have recently upgraded to a Janome DSK30 and I absolutely love it! It has been able to cope with everything I have tried so far and I know it will be able to do more. My friend also has a Janome (different model) and swears by it.

    1. Do you use it for a lot of quilting Claire? or Clothing? I'm so worried I will spend so much money and then not use it for anything useful hahaha..
Does it have a auto buttonhole?

  7. I just replaced my 20 odd year old Janome (okay, Mum's janome) with a new mechanical Janome. It's this one... http://www.janome.com.au/sewing_machine_overview.php?cid=val&mid=MS5027LE&gid=MS5027%20Limited%20Edition%20(Pink%20Ribbon) (came with a free walking foot too!)
