Serious Addiction

Turns out I have an addictive personality.. who would've thought.
So you already know about these two..

But I Maayyyyy have made number three...

and by three I mean four...

which of course means five.

 

(this one is different with a gathered skirt, so really it doesn't count?)

 I made them all for specific occasions. Kinda.

for joint bestie birthday celebrations, which were last night, hence my terrible hungover/slept on hair and the serious lack of ironing in the above pics.

ps. my Birthday totally isn't until the 29th, but i pretty much milk the whole month, every year.

The night started with me being tipsy excited..

Pregnant Dress

 

No I am not pregnant, but wearing this dress might make people think that I am.. But it's ok, because it's still cute and it's my fault anyway..

 

This is a Simplicity pattern 1800 AA.. which is a Amazing fit pattern.
I used the average fit in a size 14.. and suprisingly had to take it in alot.. the amazing fit was a good learning tool, but a bit annoying with all the basting and the constant unpicking...
I really loved Nikki's version over at Fancy That, looks gorgeous.. but mine hrrmm not so much gorgeous..

You see this dress has pleats at the front, and therefore calls for flowy materials.. and I used a pinwale :| oops..
                                                                           
So the pleats are very hard and do not flow as they are supposed to.. but IT'S LITTLE BABY DUCKS PEOPLE!!
Plus it has crazy cute pockets..

I probably should saved it for pants or a jacket... but I didn't think my boss would appreciate me rocking up in Duck pants..

Two New Looks

I first saw this pattern on i heart fabric, I swear I find so many things on Erin's site haha..
It was a post about Clothing Inspiration, and she had matched popular clothing brands with Sewing patterns. Score!

I absolutely love Cue dresses, but find they are always too short for my liking.. and out of my (Husband's) price range.

So I decided to give New look 6124, View E a crack and see if it would end up looking even remotely like a bought dress..
I didn't make the peplum, because let's face it, I don't really need extra material in the hip department.

Firstly I made my muslin from a poplin cotton that was on special at $3 a mtr, another great thing about this dress is it only needs 2 mtr's of fabric!

I didn't really get a lot of pictures of the muslin because I wore it out that night.. You can kind of see it in this picture below :)
But I did the sleeves a little differently from the pattern.. I gathered them a little to give a ruched effect. I think it turned out ok :)

The actual intended fabric is a cotton sateen at $12 a mtr... I clearly haven't got the matching patterns etc down yet, but will try harder next time.. Let me know what you think :)

 

 

 

  

Define Model.. Erm someone who is not me

So a friend of a friend saw my blog, liked what I was creating and wondered if she could take pictures of me for her Photography website, I said "Sure, why not".... when what I should have told her is
"You may want to find someone that actually knows how to model, pose, stand, doesn't look like a complete twat.."

But apart from me, the photoshoot was great:)
Kiki was wonderful on the day, she has great energy and a lot of love and passion for what she does

Also I can never get my damn pictures next to each other.. It's driving me nutso..

Electric Blue

Ahhhh Gotta love Holidays and Christmas and getting money to spend on new things :)
Instead of blowing it all on clothes and shoes (like I normally do) I decided to buy a dress form (which was on special for $175!!) and a whole bunch of new fabrics and patterns :)

Ok dresses..So when I found this fabric online, I loved it and bought it without having a pattern in mind... which is strange because I normally work the other way round :)
It's my first burda pattern, which I found to be a little confusing :| let's just say there was a lot of unpicking..
So the pattern was Burda 7132

I decided to make the dress, which has a worky kind of feel to it.
First dress without lining, and my first facings.. the zip was also extremely long, and it took me a few goes to get it right and even then I wasn't 100% happy with the finished zip..hmmphh anyway here it is..

 

It's really hard to see the pleats at the front of the dress, because of the pattern, but they are really cute:)

Also I was browsing through a thrift shop and came across a $4.50 quilt cover, which I used to make another Butterick B5748.. Eekk I love the full skirts..can't get enough :) I will make so many more of these
dresses, they are fairly simple and only have 4 pieces, which is great!

Engagement Dress

So when I made my Birthday Dress, which was the Retro Butterick pattern B5748 one my good friends Alicia saw it and asked if I could make her a Engagement dress of similar design.
Of course I said yes, but was stricken with worry about the outcome, as I am definitely not a professional sewer haha...
But I gave it a crack..

She also happens to have a teeny waist and giant boobs so I knew it would be a little more tricky than mine to fit.. but the style would suit her to a tee..It wasn't so bad in the end, as I only had to slightly adjust the shoulders for the bodice to fit her correctly.

Alicia had a similar fabric choice to mine, as she liked the polka dots look:) She also wanted a more defined sweetheart cut for the neckline.
Here is a look at the dress not long before completion (just the hem/final fitting to go)
I also made her a clutch with some scraps whilst waiting to meet her in between fittings.
It was super cute and fairly easy to make, using this great tutorial from Elm Street Life.

Birthday Dress

Weeeee it was my 26th Birthday and I wanted to try make something for myself that was a bit rockabilly:)

I bought some blue and white polka dot fabric to go with my newly coloured hair..and started looking for a pattern.
I found this adorable Retro Butterick pattern B5748, which I plan to use many many times..

I slightly adjusted the front of the dress and decided to leave the bow off the front of the dress.
The size i originally cut out was way too big, so I had to do a fair bit of adjusting to fit my bust and match the sides in order for the zip to fit.... you can kindaaaaa not really see how much I'm holding it here, but not really? hahah

I also got my makeup/hair done rockabilly, to match the dress :) 
(You can see the change in neckline here, was rounded....)

I got a lot of compliments on the day, and a stranger at the races even told me she loved my dress. So that was a big confidence booster :)

 

Then my friend Alicia asked if I would make her a similar dress for her engagement party.. and I told her I would be honoured... So we shall see how that goes :) EEEPP!!!!
